Blueberries as a Medicine

Melissa Gordon | October 20 2004

Sometimes things that seem ordinary are not so ordinary and the reasons you prefer one food or another may not be all that frivolous. Take Blueberries for example, it was recently discovered that they fight disease of all kinds in the body because they are antioxidant. Motor skills and cognition are enhanced by the chemicals naturally present in blueberries. They also reduce inflammation, increase the production of new brain cells and increase mental reaction time by 6% in older people. This chemical obviously should be isolated and concentrated into a potent medicine for Alzheimer’s disease and other nervous system disorders.

The experiments that led to this discovery were carried out on both rats and humans by Dr. James Joseph, the head of the Human Nutrition Research Centre on Ageing at Tufts University in Boston.

My advice, eat some fresh blueberries!
